The importance of cycling jerseys when it comes to representing yourself
The most anticipated bicycle marathon was about to be organized in my hometown with people of all age groups showing a keen interest in the event. The promotion of the marathon event was executed efficiently which grasped the attention of numerous people within the county and those residing in the adjoining areas. I simply could not mention the level of excitement I had before the event took place.
The bicycle marathon event is something that left a huge impact in my life, since I had a chance to encounter three crucial aspects. I started understanding the importance of overlooked sport aspects, such as using a cycling jersey for representing myself and my team, the importance of participation in such athletic events over the intent to win it and how to discipline yourself through practice and clean diet strategies.
First and foremost, I would like to share with others the importance of representing yourself in such athletic events. It happened a few days before the event took place. My friends and I were involved in an intense discussion in regards to how we were going to present ourselves on the day of the event? We started pooling ideas, and decided to place an order to get custom cycle jerseys. We started contributing money and that took take care of the expenditures related to clothing and designing. With the help of the internet, we got a hang of various bicycle jersey styles. None of those really poked our interest.
We got some ideas and we started coming up with our own styles. After a lot of discussion, we finally settled for a style and logo we wanted over our backs. My friends got in touch with a local manufacturer and we grabbed a deal with him. It left me astounded when it came to making payments. Since we had placed an order for twenty jerseys we managed to get a huge discount from the manufacturer. After accomplishing this task, the pride we had on the day of the event wearing our custom made jersey is simply beyond description.
On the day of the event our hearts were blazing out of excitement to give our best. Unfortunately, fulfilling that desire in the overcrowded marathon seemed a bit difficult. That is where I learned how important it is to participate and represent rather than holding on to the intent to win. A few days after the event, I noticed how active I became due to regular session and good diet. I started realizing the food and liquids that I introduced to my body held enormous nutrients. The experience I had during this course simply amazes me. I understood the importance of being fit and how it helped me increase my energy levels. But all in all, the best part to strike my mind first is to recall how my friends and I presented ourselves in cycling jerseys.

Resurrection by Juyoung Lee is inspired by functional fashion and the transformative power of clothing. The brand is edgy, sexy and uses lace, zippers and translucent fabrics juxtaposed against masculine shapes to create a wearable, yet clever line. Leyii
Seunghee Lee is a Korean, London based designer. Seunghee moved to London at an early age and graduated from London College of Fashion with BA First Class Honor Degree in womenswear. Following her BA Graduate show, she completed her MA in womenswear from Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design. After successful MA graduation, she took charge of several collections for Samsung Fashion Department then worked as the creative director at a bespoke tailoring house. She collaborated with photographer Giles Bensimon for Elle Korea Magazine April 2009.
LEYII’s Spring Summer 2015 collection is titled, “Rhythmic Contrast.” Inspired by Alexander Calder, LEYII uses straight lines, flat surfaces and primary hues to create natural curves and rhythm in her collection. Achieving this “balanced contrast” is accomplished through mixing various materials and colors in disorienting ways, creating 3 dimensional silhouettes.

Types of Clothing in Japan
Clothing in Japan is a mix of traditional and trendy. Much of modern day clothing in Japan is like clothing in the Western world. However, Japanese clothing also include traditional pieces like the kimono.
KimonoThe kimono is traditional Japanese clothing for both men and women. Furthermore, there are different types of kimonos worn for different situations. No matter what kind of kimono worn, it will require an obi. The obi is the belt that goes around the front and ties in the back in a sometimes elaborate fashion.
Street Fashion ClothingJapanese street clothing is an unusual type of fashion worn by young Japanese. It consists of assorted fashion trend styles. Street fashion in general includes mixed dresses, pants, tops, all in colorful designs and each chosen to represent individual street style.

The kimono is based on a Chinese prototype that had been worn since the 3rd century BC. The garment was square-cut and so were the wide sleeves. By the 8th century, the formal court costume was established based on the costume of the Chinese T’ang Dynasty, but the Japanese adapted the garment to their own purposes. The kimono can be extremely elaborate and expensive, with many layers. It’s worn mostly for ceremonial events like coronations or weddings.
China

China is a huge and very old country, but its basic garment hasn’t changed dramatically over the centuries. Clothing is fairly similar for both sexes and all classes. An emperor’s costume might differ from a peasant’s costume only in its embellishment and the quality of the fabric and the cut. Most Chinese garments are closed because of the sometimes harsh climate and in the winter the clothes can be padded. The chief garment is the tunic, or san, worn over trousers, or koo. This didn’t change much even in the modern era.

It’s worn with a fitted bodice called a choli, which can also be very elaborately embroidered. Vietnamese traditionally wear the Ao ba ba, or silk pajamas. The women’s ao dai is a long slender dress with long sleeves and a standup collar. It is so popular that it’s worn as a uniform by school girls, flight attendants, hotel staff and the like.

The sampot, also known as the sarong, is the national dress of Cambodia and is similar to dresses worn in Laos and Thailand. The krama, a checkered scarf, has been worn since the first century. It’s a specifically Cambodian garment and isn’t worn by their Vietnamese, Laotian or Thai neighbors. During the reign of the Khmer Rouge, Cambodians were forbidden to wear bright colors, and the “black pajama” was worn.
South and Central Asia

The Shalwar kameeze is worn by both men and women in South and Central Asia. It’s very much associated with Pakistan, where it’s the national dress. The Shalwar is a pajama-like pant, and the kameez is a long shirt that falls to the middle of the thigh, and slit below the waist line. Women also wear the shalwar kameez with a dupatta, or scarf, which is wrapped around the shoulders and draped over the chest.

The Institute of Information Technology Advancement (IITA) is a government organization in South Korea under the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA). It offers the Korean government’s IITA Scholarship Program for International Graduate Students to qualified individuals who are enrolled in Korean universities and are studying in the fields of IT, computer engineering, computer science, electronics and other related fields.
The scholarship, offered twice a year (spring and fall semesters), provides financial support for two years for masters and four years for doctoral degrees. Each applicant must express intention to pursue a Korean Government IT Scholarship. Those already enrolled in a Korean university must have an academic advisor. All applications must be done through the participating schools on behalf of the students with a list provided in the order of scholarship preference.

Asian Fashion Week 2014
Hi…sorry for not writting in a long time. I’ve been busy with a few important things. One of them was preparing for Asian Fashion Week which held in Surabaya city at 15-18 Agust 2014. There were 34 designers from 16 countries. And I was one of them presenting my country.
I know its already late to post this. But not that late I think.
Okay lets start…
Month ago while I was having dinner with my friend then suddenly I got the inspiration for my collection. I thought about human bones. After my friend and me think its ok, so its done.
I began preparing sketching and sketching and preparing materials, etc , and the sewing process.
Skip the boring part. Finally day 1 AFW 2014 is coming. On the first day 15 Agust 2014 there were Designers Showcase. And Annyta Purnomo, Sisca Design and Srilanka designer were one of designers that presenting their collections that afternoon. This is Annyta Purnomo Collection.

And for the evening of day 1, on the opening ceremony, Surabaya present traditional dancer. Also there were 10 collaborating collection from ARVA School of Fashion with Bolivia and Mexico designers. After that, its my turn. I was so nervous. But on the other hand I was so honoured can be part of this event and trusted to present my collection on the opening ceremony.
And the second and third day there Brunai, Nepal, Cameron and Australia designers. On the last day of AFW 2014, there were also closing ceremony and fashion show by Bibi Russell from Bangladesh.

Those were the center of attention last Monday afternoon, August 5th (despite the K-pop tunes, cocktails and Korean hors d’oeuvres) when THE K-FASHION PROJECT held a preview of its second season at Intermezzo at the Javits Center. Presented by ENK International (with whom they have an exclusive partnership), the PROJECT was created by the Korea Fashion Association, which was established in 1985 under South Korea’s Ministry of Knowledge Economy and now has a membership of about 300 fashion companies.
The mission of the KFA is to “promote, strengthen and globalize the competitiveness of the Korean fashion industry”. Certainly, when you have your brands (this season, showcased by four debuts: Buckaroo Jeans, JESSI N.Y., UGIZ, and Culture Call) styled by the inimitable Patricia Field – mission accomplished. ENK said that this collection “brings an Asian flare that is youthful, edgy and playful”. Well, Patricia Field is a champion at that game. And this being THE city of “Sex and the…”, there’s a flirty femininity that is not always girlish, but appropriately womanly, to this collection, as well.
Patricia Field’s involvement in THE K-FASHION PROJECT began with a visit to Seoul in June of 2012. Invited by the Korean Government, Field visited the stores of Korean designers, including Buckaroo whom she worked with on last year’s New York showcase. “This is an opportunity for me to work with K-Fashion again and I am looking forward to styling each collection. With their own unique identities and style, I am excited they are participating in Intermezzo and hope they are able to show the essence of Korean fashion.”

Concept Korea returned to the stage at Lincoln Center for Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. This year marked its 7th year to showcase 5 of their most talented Korean collection hand picked by the industry’s notable figures such as Fern Mallis, found of New York Fashion Week, Stan Herman, Dean of Parmans, Collen Shering, Fashion Director of Saks Fifth to name a few.

The theme this year is ‘Rhythm of Korea, where traditional Korean music, embodying the spirit of Seoul, was the patriotic drive to direct the flow of the shows. The designers who showed are Choiboko, Cres. E Dim., Kye, Lie sang bong, andSon Jung Wan. My favourite was the special crossover visual presentation of fashion and music before each designer’s first walk encapsulating each brand’s reigning concept for Fall/Winter 2013.
Each collection was such a pleasant contrast one after another. Choiboko was the first to grace the runway this year. His FW 2013 collection is titled the ‘Dance of Gods’. He had a variety of abstract prints as if they were dancing on the fabrics of different shapes and forms. He stuck to the blander colour palette of cream, black and red.
The second brand was Cres. E. Dim by Hongbum Kim. His inspiration came from the musical term ‘crescendo e diminuendo’, this was reflected by his choice of background music for his runway show. My favourite from his FW2013 was cropped top long sleeved with paired with olive green high-waisted pants.
Next was a change of tone presented by Son Jung Wan, she presented a collection of ‘dynamic romance’. And it was truly beautiful. Her brand is an amalgamation of New York minimalistic silhouettes and romantic retro glam. Her inspiration for this collection was a Wassily Kandinsky and The Catherine Palace.
After Son Jung Wan’s girly fur on feminine flowy numbers, we saw another sharp change by Lie Sang Bong’s retro collection. The first look gave a dramatic entrance by presenting a lit-up hat against the darkness before the spotlight hits the runway. This specially gave the audience some excitement. The collection was filled with geometrical shapes and voluminous outerwear. My favourite were the looks with Piet Mondrian’s 1920s world-renowned prints.
The show ended with Kye by Kathleen Hanhee Kye; a recent Central Saint Martins graduate. It is a popular brand amongst the most powerful retailers like Opening Ceremony and Harvey Nichols. Her collection was titled ‘Unemployed Youth: Homeless Youth” – drawing inspiration from Seoul Station. It was filled with dizzying graffiti coloured prints, oversized jackets and coats, which in an essence was described as a fun collection.
All in all, this collective show was fun and filled with variety. This definitely goes to show that the Korean fashion industry is the one to watch.

The countdown to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has begun. From September 5-12, some of the top designers in the world will show their collections at the tents at Lincoln Center. Some of these designers have offered us a sneak peek of their collections.

Concept Korea began in the spring of 2010, and this SS 2014 season marks the organization’s eighth time showing at New York Fashion Week. This season’s Concept Korea presentation will be on Monday, September 9 at 3 p.m. at the Stage. “The collection was inspired by the Bible phrase, “The stone the builder rejected has become the corner stone (Psalms 118:22)”. It features a modern and structural aesthetic which is expressed through architectural motifs (concrete, iron bar, mold) and oversized Y-shape silhouettes in tone on tone fabrics,” said Suk-Tae Lee of his Kaal E. Suktae SS14 collection. Designer Choi Bo Ko, who will be presenting his ChoiBoKo SS14 collection, spoke about his inspirations. “Arirang Punk inspires this collection; represented by the excitement of play and deep resentment – drawing inspiration from modern Korean culture through the use of punk elements such as exaggerated colors and patterns.” Park Youn Soo will be presenting her collection. “The collection focuses on shape and form, silhouette, and pattern. Drawing inspiration from folk art paintings,” she said in statement. Tae Yong Ko, the designer behind Beyond Closet, said “The spring/summer 2014 collection is inspired by everyday views of men working out in gyms. This physical transformation from a gaunt-like state to a more muscular, masculine appearance is represented through classic argyle patterns, and an expansion of Beyond Closet’s “Dog Series”, depicted through prints and embroideries.”
Lubov Azria, Chief Creative Officer of both BCBG andHerve Leger also spoke about the inspirations for both of her Spring/Summer 2014 collections. For BCBGMAXAZRIA, “We were inspired by nature and modern art. Contemporary art inspired the choice of vivid colors, while more muted tones glean inspiration from the natural beauty of the world around us.” BCBGMAXAZRIA’s Spring 2014 Collection will hit the runway on Thursday, September 5 at 10 a.m. This season, BCBG is also partnering with Fashion Delivers for a three-day “Be Chic By Giving” event that will take place in all BCBG U.S. Retail boutiques and select BCBG Canada Retail boutiques from Thursday, September 5 to Saturday, September 7, 2013. On the first day of the event, customers are invited to visit any retail boutique to enjoy a glass of champagne. Throughout the event, for every apparel item purchased, BCBG will donate one item to a regionalized charity supporting women’s empowerment. Receiving charity agencies include Shelter Partnership in Los Angeles, CA, Caring for Others in Atlanta, GA, Connections in Evanston, IL, Women in Need (W.I.N) in New York City, NY, and Women on the Rise in Montreal, Canada. In support of this national event and in celebration of the BCBGMAXAZRIA Spring 2014 Runway Shows, Max and Lubov Azria will be hosting a special event at the BCBGMAXAZRIA Flagship store on 40th and 5th in New York City on Thursday, September 5.
For Herve Leger, Max and Lubov were inspired by “Different cultural and geological references inspire the collection as seen in ancient tribes and tradition.” The Herve Leger presentation will be at the Theatre at Lincoln Center on Saturday, September 7 at 3:00 p.m.
Mara Hoffman said that her collection is all about the colors of the rainbow. “I call this collection “a gang of rainbow warriors”. If there were ever a gang that worshipped rainbows, this is what they would wear!” We are excited to check out her collection at the Stage on September 7 at 2 p.m.
Rebecca Taylor’s Spring/summer 2014 is all about modern romanticism. “Construction details and trims reference early American workwear, with a hint of feminism. Key silhouettes experiment with proportion – cropped tops, full trousers and teacup skirts are paired with soft, modern volume in rounded sleeve shapes. Airy, crisp white poplin shirting and geo eyelet are layered with tactile matelassé, laminated knit, and crystal-encrusted lace. Botanic inspiration is abstracted in prints, with transparent layers of color. Neutrals of palest grey and sage green are balanced with a strong base of cayenne and nude, with a pop of robin’s egg blue,” Taylor said. Rebecca Taylor’s Spring/Summer 2014 Runway Show will be September 7, 2013 at 1:00PM at Center 548.
Tracy Reese’s highly anticipated presentation will be Sunday, September 8 at 2 p.m. “Tracy Reesespring 2014 radiates sensuality, energy and optimism with an array of bold, spirited styles infused with Afro-Cuban influences to create an aesthetic full of texture and movement. Balancing fresh, feminine styles and modern sportswear, the collection is rich in detail, including leather and raffia embroideries and authentic athletic accents. Silhouettes range from crop-tops paired with full midi-skirts and cropped trousers to signature fit and flare frocks. Textile highlights include geometric laces, tribal embroideries and bonded technical knits. Prints, always a staple of Tracy Reese collections, include mixed scale gingham and window pane, tropical floral placements and tribal geometrics in a spectrum of pinks, blues, greens and ochre. Building on Afro-Cuban cultural influences, key looks such as a bold lapis and scarlet floral flyaway frock with back ruffle detail, a striped scarlet and black flyaway tee, structured crisp white trousers and fisherman-inspired sandals express the effortless style of the modern woman who is sexy, assured and contemporary” Reese said.

Vancouver Fashion Week; An International Success
The Fall/Winter 2015 collections of more than 60 designers from around the globe successfully strutted down the catwalk at Vancouver Fashion Week between March 16-22 at Queen Elizabeth Plaza.

Vancouver Fashion Week founder Jamal Abdourahman was, once again, thrilled with the breadth of creative talent from new as well as returning designers. Says Abdourahman: “We love to celebrate the diversity of fashion culture, and Vancouver provides this perfect platform to support emerging talent.”
Amongst the top-returning designers was Noe Bernacelli, whose Peruvian international style and beauty has been greatly received in Vancouver.
Also on the lineup, was Korean designer Hong Kiyoung. Kiyoung is widely recognized for his luxury streetwear, which experiments with silhouettes and colorful prints.
Every season, Vancouver Fashion Week continues to push its boundaries and strives to attract new and emerging designers from across the world.
This season it also welcomed Chinese designer ILOVECHOC, who mixes cute cartoon designs with luxury fabrics. Korean company JUKOjulie, who has been greatly welcomed into the New York fashion scene and designer Paloma Sanchez, who has been recognized as one of the “30 Best Jewelry Designers” in the world.
VFW also continued to support the city’s homegrown talent with the return of local designers Connally McDougall, Grandi’s Atelier and Sara Armstrong. All three designers are local to Vancouver and are inspired by the city.
*Perhaps VFW’s most refreshing designer to show this season was Silver Lake, Oregon’s 15-year-old Kate Miles. Says Kate: “Color and texture has always been a whole other language to me. I read them like poetry. Drape and movement speak to me, and the dress just takes shape in my mind. Ideas lie in everything from a brick wall to a flower in my garden. Sometimes I will sketch it out, but usually I just pick up my scissors and go for it. My designs are always a juxtaposition of vintage with a modern edge. I love taking the delicate fabrics and laces from old garments and paring them with newer and bolder aspects to create something timeless, but exciting.”
